Support services for students with additional needs
Support services for students with additional needs, within Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga refers to what has usually been known as Special Education.  Students with additional needs in our schools are supported by classroom teachers and school-based support staff.  Teachers receive advice and support through the Head of Team – Inclusion, and Education Officers and a Psychologist.
The nature of the support provided addresses the needs of the student and may involve:
  • one-on-one advice on effective practice
  • program planning
  • individual education programs
  • school coordination
  • transition from preschool to primary school and primary to secondary

Staff involved in supporting teachers who have children with additional needs conduct regular inservice programs and promote inservice opportunities from outside the system. The Head of Team - Inclusion is responsible for ensuring that funding is equitably distributed.

Additional information and support can be accessed through various support organisations and special schools.
The Inclusion Team also provide assistance for gifted and talented students.
